Rachel of the Comédie - Française
Released:
2003 Rachel was the greatest French actress of the mid 19th century, reviving the classical tradition in the face of Romanticism and Revolution. Born into a peddlar Jewish family, discovered singing on the streets, she rose to become the star of the Comedie Francaise. Her colorful brief life involved Napoleonic affairs, admiration from royals across Europe, and a great following amongst artists and the public. Filmed at the Comedie Francaise, and in collaboration with them, the film includes two contemporary performances of two of her key roles.
